Helmetless Obama Causes Controversy

August 31st, 2009 Sammy

This really has nothing to do with mountain biking but I felt I needed to add my commentary. I’ll spare the photo as the whole nation has seen it and don’t really want a picture of him my website anyway.

Who cares that he isn’t wearing a helmet.  Most states that have helmet laws only apply to people  under 18 years old.  He’s riding around Martha’s Vineyard.. I don’t think they have a whole lot of cars there. and to top it off, they appear to be riding a sidewalk or bike path.

According to Politico

On Babble.com, a website for parents, Josh Loposer write, “Truly despicable isn’t it? What kind of example is he setting for the nation’s youth?”

It amazes me that people of so much time on their hands to  criticize him on a helmet but not on his reckless spending or the fact that he still hasn’t disclosed his long form birth certificate.  Legally, he shouldn’t even be President.

Mountain Bike Race Coming to Reno

Found this new event via my Google Alerts.. A new mountain bike race as part of Galena Fest 2009.

Quoted from the original post:

Galena Fest 2009 is bringing competitive mountain biking to the hills above South Reno, taking advantage of one of the region’s best-kept secrets – the Galena Creek Regional Park – and giving racers another reason to visit the region.

The race takes place Sept. 27, from 7 a.m.-2 p.m. with tons of events for mountain bikers of every age and skill level, including: The Bloody Rose Mountain Bike Climb to Relay Peak; The Thorn Mountain Bike Climb to The Wall at Sky Tavern; Kids’ Mountain Bike Race through Galena Creek Regional Park, and Big Fish Contest at Marilyn Pond.

The event will raise funds to keep Galena Creek Regional Park accessible and safe and re-establish outdoor programs at the Park.

Mountain Bike Oregon Was Awesome

August 28th, 2009 Sammy

Last weekend I had the opportunity to attend Mountain Bike Oregon in Oakridge as Guide in Training. What an awesome experience… great people, great food (thank you Chris King) and outstanding beers. Most importantly the riding in Oakridge is incredible, I guided on Alpine Proper both days… I just love the Jedi Section above Windy Pass.

I got to meet Francis, the man behind MTBR.com. We sat and had dinner together on Saturday night and talked about Wordpress of all things. If you are interested, here is a link to an MBO photo thread on MTBR.

I’m already looking forward to MBO 2010 as I plan on guiding again next year in both July and August. Be sure to subscribe to our RSS Feed to keep up on the latest mountain bike news and events.
